Isn't it rather hard to believe that EBONY magazine is already celebrating its 65th year? To commemorate this milestone, they've re-visited some of their best covers, which featured some of the most iconic stars of our time, by re-interpreting them using some of today's top celebrities and musicians. Take a look... (All images by Keith Major) As a budding photographer, this would be such a wonderful accomplishment to have my work shown on a national level. This is really a nice layout.

One of the most valuable assets of a Sophisticated Gentleman is a good tailor. For years I frequented (at least once a week) a tailor in downtown Los Angeles, but too often I was having to return 2 and 3 times to have an item properly finished. A relationship with a poor tailor is like a poor relationship with your girlfriend or wife; we know it's not beneficial, and that it has ran its course, but we get comfortable with the familiar, good or bad. This relationship was not good! Well, about two years ago I found the most amazing tailor around; Mr. Benny Spatola of Spatola Tailoring. If you can't afford custom-made clothing then a personal tailor is definitely the second best option. And as the saying goes, Benny "is your man." In my search for the "perfect fit" (in my clothing and my tailore) I've learned that length of service does not equal quality of service. But, Benny's 34 years in business has made for a long list of satisfied and, I'm certain, repeat customers. He's located directly across the street from Nordstroms at South Coast Plaza. It's nearly an hour from my doorstep to his, but well worth the drive. WARNING: Benny is the quintessential Italian gentleman: Gregarious, well-dressed and the biggest flirt with the ladies. Oh, how I envy him. (At the height of my "sickness," I owned nearly thirty timepieces; from a Swatch to a Rolex.) With great fondness, I can remember quite well my very first watch, which I bought with my own money when I was around 6 years old. Granted, I purchased it from McDonald's and it was red plastic and it didn't have an actual moving mechanism, but in my six year old mind it was a watch, nonetheless. My watch! Come to think of it, in lieu of working hands, the face was just an embossed impression of the big guy himself - Ronald McDonald. The top opened up to reveal a "secret" compartment to store all of the treasures of a young boy: coins, gum, broken crayons, crickets (sadly, it was unsuitable for live insects, I soon found out.) Now that I've grown up, a Ralph Lauren timepiece would definitely be an exquisite addition to my watch wardrobe. Now that I have my eye on the Slim Classique with black alligator strap, I'm really not so certain, after all, if I'd want to honor the tradition of leaving this jewel of a watch to my future heir apparent. Maybe he'll be content with receiving my old Swatch watch. Hey, it still works. (video via www.ralphlaurenwatches.com) |
