Recently, I've been wanting to take my game to the next level (or more precisely, a level!), and luckily I came across an article on the comprehensive golf clinic, The Golf Academy by The Sports Club/LA. Hopefully, when I refer to "a hole in one" in the coming months, I will actually be referring to my game and not just my socks.
My friend, Adrian, is a golf fanatic; seemingly, eating, breathing and sleeping golf. (Much to his wife's (Christina) chagrin and frustration, I'm sure). After repeated requests to join him on the course, I finally decided to take golf lessons at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, so that we'd be able to play on his "off" days. While I haven't become an addict quite like he's become, it has been a great pastime and probably the only exercise I've gotten since eight grade. Since signing up in 2003, I've purchased tickets for over 120 events from the discount website, Goldstar Events. I realize that GROUPON is all the rage now, but GoldStar has been providing equally impressive services, at discounted prices, for quite some time. They offer reduced-priced tickets in adult, children and family entertainment for everything from sporting events and live theatre to movies, comedy shows and concerts, etc. Registration is free, with average savings of 35-60%, and some events are even offered gratis. If you're dating quite a bit (or with family), this site is definitely a must. Sign up here, today! I just got back from archery class, which is down the street from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. I haven't been in a few weeks, so my arms are just a tad bit sore. Because I was never a Boy Scout, when I came across an ad, a few months back, for the Pasadena Roving Archer, I thought that it would be great fun to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. Honestly, maybe I was more intrigued at being allowed to shoot an apple off of someone's head. You know, someone like an ex-girlfriend or an annoying co-worker. Come to find out, though, requests like these are surprisingly frowned upon at the range. Can you believe that? Well, at least the "Granny Smith" that I'd taken along, made for a hearty snack. My first time there was interesting. After an hour and a half training class, the beginners (me and a bunch of twelve year olds!) were finally allowed to shoot up the town. Okay, more like the bulls-eye target perched on a haystack from ten yards away, but you get the idea. The staff at Pasadena Roving Archer is extraordinarily knowledgable, as well as, patient and friendly. I've only been about 7 or 8 times, but each time it's been a great deal of fun and good to see a fair number of parents participating with their children. (Age requirement = 10 and up) Be be sure to get there by 8:15 on Saturday morning to claim equipment and a spot. The first lesson is FREE and $5.00, thereafter. Growing up, I'd spend every summer in the country with my uncle and aunt and two cousins. (grandmother also lived nearby.) Since, my family has always owned horses, riding was always a treat for this reluctant "city boy." I used to go to Griffith Park periodically, but it just didn't seem right, the trail bordering the freeway and all. But, now that I've found Altadena Stables, I'd really like to start again. I can only hope that it's true what they say about bicycles and horses. I guess I'll find out soon enough. GQ's weighty, fashion-filled September issue features LeBron James as its cover model. It's a great layout and even though it's a rather safe bet to say that there was a stylist orchestrating the entire shoot, it's still good to see someone that tall look so effortlessly stylish; from the casual pieces to the suit photo. As mere mortals (those of us under 6'), there's no excuse not to look our best. Okay, maybe his annual salary of $25 million allows him to attempt any look under the sun.. good or bad. Thankfully, these were good choices. |

I was born in the country, but brought up in the big city, with hopes of always maintaining the charm, wit and character of a southern, sophisticated gentleman. In my goal to live more passionately & purposefully, here are just a few things that I've learned and experienced along the way, making my journey more interesting, and more importantly, easier.
