After departing the fashion powerhouse, Gucci, back in 2004, many thought that women's fashions had heard the last of Tom Ford. Well, he's back. After starting his men's fashion empire in 2007 and producing and directing, A Single Man, based on Christopher Isherwood's novel, in 2009, thankfully womenswear has been added back to his to-do list.

Ralph Lauren has done it again. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of RalphLauren.com, today the lifestyle impresario released two highly innovative videos in 4D! One was splashed across the facade of the recently unveiled women's Madison Avenue store, the other onto the London flagship: Polo ponies cantering across the store fronts, as did models down superimposed runways. Since it was all presented in 4D, the breathtaking images seemingly galloped from their equally impressive backdrops. Bravo, Monsieur Lauren! How does the adage go: "Often imitated, never duplicated." Welcome to the world of Ralph Lauren. NEW YORK LONDON I love funny people: Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Clower, Joan Rivers, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, et al. In particular, I greatly enjoy comedians who tell a story, not just jokes. The first time that I had even heard of Fran Lebowitz was when I picked up a copy of "Social Studies" at Rizzoli Bookstore several years back. I rememeber actually laughing out loud as I leafed through the pages trying to figure out if it was indeed a necessary purchase. It was. Her writing, while quick-witted, painfully observant, and at times acerbic, it never came across as malicious. At least not blatantly so. One of my favorite chapters was titled "How Not To Marry A Millionaire: A Guide For The Misfortune Hunter." It rather distinctly showed the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots. More than hilarious was the sub-section titled, "What Not To Say To Poor People" (Or, more specifically, the "Have Nots" ~
Since she doesn't write as much as we'd like her to, I was quite thrilled when I recently saw an article about an upcoming documentary, Public Speaking, which was directed by none other than Martin Scorsese. For someone who considers herself to be terribly lazy (not having done much from 1979-2007, by her own admission) it would seem as though slothful behavior has definitely benefited her... at least creatively. Public Speaking premieres on HBO on November 22nd. I can't wait to see it. (video via HBO) During winter holiday 2007, a few family members and I met in New York to celebrate my cousin's, Korby, 40th birthday. Coming from California, where the tempature was about 70 degrees when I boarded the plane, it was great to experience the seasonal change on the east coast; Manhattan. On our second day there, while everyone else decided to sleep in, my cousin Dena and I decided to get up early to go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. Not only had I not been on regular skates in about 15 years, but I had never been on ice skates. Well, the good thing about trying something new and possibly making a fool of one's self is that, since you're away from home. who will know? (Dreaded YouTube!) In the last few years skating rinks have made there way to Southern California: Pershing Square in Downtown and Universal City to name two locations. This year, Ice at Santa Monica, marks its fourth year of joining in the fun. I definitely want to check this one out, if for no other reason than to experience the juxtaposition of ocean, sand and outdoor ice skating, (oh and palm trees) all within such a short stroll from one another. Ah, the beauty of living in Los Angeles. This is a perfect outing for a date. (especially, since now that I'm an expert in this art form. Translation: I can now stand up on my skates without having to skim the railing.) And, of course, there's always indoor ice skating in Pasadena at the Pasadena Ice Skating Center. Ice at Santa Monica 1324 5th Street Santa Monica, Ca 90401 www.iceatsantamonica.com November 5 - February 15 Admission & Skate Rental: $10.00 HOURS: Monday-Thursday: Noon-10pm Friday: Noon-Midnight Saturday: 10am-Midnight Sunday: 10am-10pm My friend Barbara called me this afternoon saying that, after a long drama-filled work week, she was "hankering for some moonshine." Being from the south, I knew exactly what she meant. Since she was coming from Santa Monica (near the Pier), and I was already in L.A., I suggested that we meet at one of my favorite friday night hot-spots: Friday Night Jazz at LACMA. I've been coming here for about fifteen years and rarely has the musical line-up offered a sour note (pun intended). Tonight, they featured The Monktet, which was founded by John Magruder, and played in the style of Thelonius Monk - Classic Jazz. For a number of years, this program was offered year round, but now it only goes from April through Thanksgiving. One of the best parts about coming here, (besides the wonderful music and atmosphere) is the wonderful price - FREE! During these economically challenging times, it's nice to be able to use my favorite four-letter "F" word, in public, once again: FREE! One good quality of having a good platonic relationship like Barbara's and mine is that this doesn't translate, as it might on a date, as being cheap. Which I am not. The weather was really nice, so the turn-out was great. Easily 500+ people took over the atrium tonight: old, young, dressed up, dressed down, couples, families, friends, children... After leaving the concert, and on the way to our cars, Barbara and I stopped by the Chris Burden light installation, Urban Lights, which he's described as, "symbols of a civilized and sophisticated city - safe after dark and beautiful to behold." This magnificent exhibit consists of 202 1920's cast-iron lamp posts from Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. Even in the middle of Los Angeles, something about these grand lamps strike me as being extremely romantic; two lovers taking a midnight stroll, down a fog-filled London street. I greatly enjoy coming to LACMA, for both the museum exhibits as well as, the music and film series throught out the year. This would be a great place for me to take a couple to do an engagement or wedding shoot. The glowing lights serving as sort of a modern day mistletoe; the gentleman stealing a kiss underneath the glowing filaments from his future bride. HOURS: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 11:00am - 5:00pm Wed: CLOSED Friday: 11:00am - 8:00pm Saturday & Sunday: 10:00am - 7:00pm |

I was born in the country, but brought up in the big city, with hopes of always maintaining the charm, wit and character of a southern, sophisticated gentleman. In my goal to live more passionately & purposefully, here are just a few things that I've learned and experienced along the way, making my journey more interesting, and more importantly, easier.
