Sunday, April 26, 2009 "You wore an awesome color-changing dress to the BBQ on Skillman Ave in Williamsburg, but someone spilled wine on it. You left too quickly... I'd like to see you again." m4w-24 When I started reading/viewing this blog ealier this year, missedconnectionsny.blogspot.com, I was amazed at the talent of its creator, Sophie Blackall, who is also a children's book illustrator. This is one of those seemingly simple ideas where you wonder why you didn't think of it first. But, then I remembered that even my stick figures look sickly, at best. Ms. Blackall takes the information from personal pages in the newspaper and interprets them in a most artistic manner, translating the ads into beautifully rendered portraits. The artist's drawings often prove more exciting than the originally written ads themselves. Before meeting The Duke, had I seen myself in one of Ms. Blackall's beautiful and brilliant works, I might have been willing to answer a gentleman caller's ad to meet for coffee or a drink. But now, I'd settle for purchasing the artwork through Etsy, which would undoutedly prove a safer encounter than meeting up with a complete stranger.
